Chris Roberts Profile
After graduating with a First Class Degree in Drama from Bristol University and a Masters Degree in TV Production from the University of Manchester, Chris began his career producing and editing corporate training and promotional videos for a variety of organisations. Starting out on linear editing systems, it didnʼt take him long to graduate to computer-based editing - initially using Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premiere and Final Cut Pro.
Over the years Chris has edited a huge variety of projects - from corporate training DVDs and online promotional videos, to short dramas and broadcast documentaries - and has expanded his skills to include motion graphics design, colour correction and grading.
Chris began training in late 2003, running LSC-funded short courses in video editing, and between 2003 and 2005 he was a regular contributor and host for the UK Final Cut Pro User Group (UKFCPUG) in the Midlands. During this time he was also a contributor and technical reviewer for “Creative Titling for Final Cut Pro” published by Ilex Press.
Chris became an Apple Certified Trainer in 2005 and in 2008 he became one of the first Apple Certified Master Trainers in Europe, a status he still holds today with current trainer certifications in all the Final Cut Studio applications.
Chris currently runs Apple Certified training courses at a number of Apple Authorised Training Centres throughout the UK, as well as designing and running bespoke training on request.
Since the start of 2008 Chris has also been one of a handful of Mentor Trainers for Apple Europe, with responsibility for running Appleʼs European Final Cut Pro Train-the-Trainer classes.
In 2011 Chris has begun diversifying his training. He has recently become an Adobe Certified Instructor for Premiere Pro CS5.5 and plans to be among the first to recertify as an Apple Certified Trainer for both Final Cut Pro X and Motion 5.
Of course, Chris also still enjoys working in production and has a number of clients for which he regularly works as line producer and director, as well as editor.
In addition, he can also bring the following video production skills to any project:
- Full programme production, including research, scripting and interviewing
- Directing single and multi-camera studio and location shoots
- Online and offline non-linear editing
- Motion graphics design
- Colour correction and grading
- Professional DVD Authoring
- Video encoding for mobile devices and the Web
- Experience with various tape formats, including HDCAM, DVCPRO HD, HDV, Digital Betacam,
Betacam SP, DVCAM, DVCPRO and miniDV
- Experience of tapeless formats includes Panasonic P2, Sony XDCAM EX, XDCAM HD, etc., Canon 5D, AVCHD and RED.
Chris lives on the outskirts of Birmingham with his partner Sam and her two children. When not working he enjoys long walks, reading and catching up on the TV he invariably misses. He'd like to add DIY to this list, but admitted a long time ago that he's just not very good at it.
