Chris Roberts Profile

After graduating with a First Class Degree in Drama from Bristol University and a Masters Degree in TV Production from the University of Manchester, Chris began his career producing and editing corporate training and promotional videos for a variety of organisations. Starting out on linear editing systems, it didnʼt take him long to graduate to computer-based editing - initially using Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premiere and Final Cut Pro.

Over the years Chris has edited a huge variety of projects - from corporate training DVDs and online promotional videos, to short dramas and broadcast documentaries - and has expanded his skills to include motion graphics design, colour correction and grading.

Chris began training in 2003, running LSC-funded short courses in video editing, and between 2003 and 2005 he was a regular contributor and host for the UK Final Cut Pro User Group (UKFCPUG) in the Midlands. During this time he was also a contributor and technical reviewer for “Creative Titling for Final Cut Pro” published by Ilex Press.

Chris became an Apple Certified Trainer in 2005 and has been running Apple Certified training courses at Apple Authorised Training Centres throughout the UK and Europe since then. In 2008 he became one of the first Apple Certified Master Trainers in Europe by holding trainer certifications in all the Final Cut Studio applications.

In 2008 Chris was invited to become a Mentor Trainer for Apple EMEIA with responsibility for running Appleʼs European Final Cut Pro Train-the-Trainer classes. He is currently one of only two Mentor Trainers for Final Cut Pro in the UK.

Chris began diversifying his training in 2011 when he became an Adobe Certified Instructor for Premiere Pro. He was also among the first in the world to recertify as an Apple Certified Trainer for both Final Cut Pro X and Motion 5.

Of course, Chris also still enjoys working in production and has a number of clients for which he regularly works as line producer and director, as well as editor.

Chris lives on the outskirts of Birmingham with his partner Sam and her two children. When not working he enjoys long walks, reading and catching up on the TV he invariably misses. He'd like to add DIY to this list, but admitted a long time ago that he's just not very good at it.
